Epic Not Starting / Crashing On Open: Windows & Mac Solutions

Dear Epic Users, a few users are reporting issues with our most recent update that Epic either doesn’t open or immediately opens then closes. We have discovered a few potential solutions to this issue.

If you’re using an older version of Windows or OSX, check if the latest Chromium still supports your OS — if it doesn’t, you’ll need an older version of Epic (email Alok for a link).

If you’re on a reasonably recent OS and you’re facing this issue, try these ideas in order:

  1. Open Epic Repeatedly. Open Epic. Epic may crash. Repeat. Re-open Epic. Epic may crash. Re-open Epic. See if after trying to open Epic 10 to 20 times, it starts working fine.
  2. Delete the “default” folder after backing up passwords & bookmarks. First backup Passwords & Bookmarks.  In Windows, open a window navigator, then type %localappdata% and press return. Then open the “Epic Privacy Browser” folder, then open the “User Data” folder, then open the “Default” folder.  In Macs, first go to Application Support, then open the “HiddenReflex” folder, then open the “User Data” folder. Then copy the files (not the folders) in the “Default” folder — particularly “Bookmarks” “Bookmarks.bak” “Login Data” “Login Data.journal” “TransportSecurity” “Preferences” and any other files there.  Copy those files into some safe folder on your system. After Backing up those files, simply delete the “Default” folder in Epic, then re-open Epic. See if that fixes Epic. Upon successful reinstallation of Epic, copy those files back to the same location in the now working Epic to restore bookmarks & passwords.
  3. Uninstall Epic after backing up passwords & bookmarks. Delete all registry entries from Epic and the Epic folder in %localappdata% for Windows or the HiddenReflex folder in Application Support for Macs. Then reinstall Epic.

If none of these 3 solutions gets Epic working on your system again, email our founder alok at hiddenreflex dot com.
